At the end of the mason bee season, simply return your nesting block to us. We open the nesting chambers, harvest and clean the cocoons, remove predators including pollen mites, Houdini flies and chalkbrood, and sterilize the nesting block.
Healthy cocoons are carefully inspected and stored under controlled conditions through the winter so they're ready for spring.
You keep your outer bee house. We take care of the bees and nesting block.
Clay is not included with refills. If you still have clay from last season and it's in good condition, you're all set. If not, be sure to add clay to your order.
Bee house and clay are not included.
Don't have an outer bee house yet? Start with our Mason Bee Starter Kit.
Check the dimensions of your bee house before ordering to make sure our nesting block will fit.
Release. Host. Return. We do the rest.
Mason bees are powerful spring pollinators, active when fruit trees and early spring gardens are bursting with blooms. As they move from blossom to blossom collecting loose pollen on their bellies, they spread pollen from flower to flower. Better pollination can mean more fruit from the trees you already grow.

You don’t need to be a beekeeper to host mason bees! These gentle, highly efficient spring pollinators emerge right when many fruit trees begin blooming and can pollinate up to 95% of the flowers they visit. There’s no hive, no honey and no queen to care for. Simply set up your bee house, release your bees and let them get to work. At the end of their short spring season, return your nesting block to us and we’ll take care of the harvesting, cleaning and winter care.
Simply set up your bee house, put your emergence tube on top of the nest block, remove tape from the tape covering the hole on the emergence tube and watch your bees emerge when temperatures reach 55 degrees. Watch our video for a step-by-step guide on setting up your mason bee kit.
At Rent Mason Bees, we make hosting mason bees easy by taking care of the fall cleaning for you. At the end of the season, keep your black shelter house and return your nesting blocks to us in September.
We harvest and clean the cocoons, remove predators like pollen mites, Houdini flies and chalkbrood, and sterilize the nesting blocks to help prevent threats from carrying into the next season. Healthy cocoons are carefully sorted and stored under proper conditions through the winter.
Come spring, healthy mason bees are ready to emerge, pollinate and begin the cycle again.
