Fruit Tree Pollination

Grow More Fruit with Mason Bees.

Your fruit trees may be covered in blossoms, but blossoms alone don’t guarantee fruit. Apples, pears, cherries, plums and other spring-blooming fruit trees need effective pollination to produce a strong crop. Mason bees emerge right alongside spring bloom, making them ideal fruit tree pollinators.

95% Pollination Rate

Mason bees are incredibly efficient pollinators, pollinating about 95% of the flowers they visit. They carry loose pollen on the hairs of their bodies and “belly-flop” onto flowers, spreading pollen from blossom to blossom. As they move between trees, they also help transfer pollen between compatible varieties. Just a few mason bees can make a big difference in your backyard orchard.

How to Boost Fruit Tree Pollination with Mason Bees

Timing matters. Release your mason bees as your fruit trees begin to bloom and daytime temperatures are around 55°F. If your trees bloom early or over several weeks, stagger your release. Put out a small group of cocoons first, keep the remaining cocoons refrigerated, then release additional bees as more blossoms open. This extends emergence across your bloom period and helps protect bees when early spring weather is unpredictable. Watch our video for expert tips on timing, staggering releases and bee placement for better fruit pollination.
