Welcome to the Bainbridge Mason & Leafcutter Bee Program!
Hi, I’m Thyra! I live on Bainbridge Island and started the Bainbridge Mason Bee Program to help local gardeners and bee enthusiasts discover the benefits of hosting mason and leafcutter bees.
I also lead Rent Mason Bees, based in Bothell, Washington, the nation’s largest solitary bee provider. We offer mason and leafcutter bees, starter kits, nesting supplies, and professional fall harvesting and cleaning services. Each year, our team harvests and cleans more than 3 million mason bee cocoons!
Over the past five years, we’ve released more than 200,000 mason bees right here on Bainbridge Island! You may have spotted some of our large bee nesting bins around the island and around the Peninsula.
I’m also passionate about bee education and regularly visit local schools and community events to teach people about these amazing pollinators and how to care for them.

Growing a Pollinator-Friendly Community
Bainbridge Island is a community that cares deeply about protecting our environment, and I’m proud to be part of that effort! Through educational programs at local schools, garden clubs, The Barn, and community events, I teach people about the importance of native pollinators and how to care for mason and leafcutter bees. Together, we’re helping more native bees thrive and keeping our island healthy for generations to come.
