Do we put the leafcutter bees out at this time or after we take down the mason bees?
Hi Kathy,
You’ll store leafcutters in your garage until Summer time. Then you’ll swap out the mason bee block with the leafcutter block. If you got our bees and are receiving our newsletters, we’ll make sure to notify you when to do this. Let us know if you have any other questions. Thank you!
The big concern is birds. You can wad up newspaper and stick in the empty space next to your tube to distract them from building a nest. You can remove ants if you see them, but other bees are probably just being snoopy checking out the holes. The other concern are houdini flies. Here’s a blog we wrote about them. They are evasive predators that can destroy mason bee populations. https://rentmasonbees.com/predator-alert-invasive-houdini-fly/

Is there a concern with other kinds of bees or ants bothering this set up at any time? If so what do you recommend ?

I have put up my mason bee house and am waiting patiently… it’s like Christmas.
