VIDEO – Mrs. Smith’s Science Class Studies Mason Bees & Pollen Mites

Mr. Smith teaches Science at Pioneer Middle School and this year in their school garden they released mason bees. In April, Thyra visited the classrooms and introduced the students to mason bees and taught them about their life cycle and how they pollinate. Along with our mason bee blocks, the students set out clusters of cardboard tubes to experiment and study their bees.
We returned to their school in June to open up their nesting block and examine what was inside. The kids were fascinated to look under a microscope and study pollen mites, larva and empty cocoons.
